Headline Diagnosis
In April we measured the symptoms: organic revenue down 18.7% year over year, 3,573 broken pages and 7,858 unindexed pages reported by Google Search Console (GSC), and a key blog ranking slipping. This follow-up audit inspected the live site itself, and found the mechanisms behind those numbers. The store's foundation is genuinely sound. A small set of infrastructure and template defects is holding it back, and every one of them is fixable.

The Bottom Line
The store is not losing organic ground because of weak products or weak content capability. It is losing ground because of one broken alias domain, two index-bloat generators, and a cluster of theme template bugs, each of which is a contained, one-time engineering fix. Meanwhile the commercial core is healthy: the store ranks #1 for "buy gong" and #1 for "gong stand", and its AI-agent infrastructure is ahead of the market.
One Broken Domain
The non-hyphenated gongsunlimited.com forwards only its homepage. Every deeper link on it dead-ends in an unstyled error page. This silently kills old backlinks, bookmarks, and AI citations.
Search Pages In the Index
Internal site-search results are open to Google indexing. Every unique search phrase mints a new indexable URL, feeding the 7,858 "crawled, not indexed" pile.
The Core Is Strong
Correct canonical tags, a thorough robots.txt, strong security headers, unique product copy, and #1 rankings on the money keywords. The fixes in this report protect and compound an already-working engine.
Section 02
The Domain Discovery
The single most important finding of this audit. Gongs Unlimited operates on two domains: the real store at gongs-unlimited.com (with a hyphen) and an alias at gongsunlimited.com (no hyphen). The alias is not connected to the store at all. It is a registrar-level "domain forward" on separate infrastructure, and it only knows how to forward one page: the homepage.

Why This Matters So Much
Every historical backlink, bookmark, email link, print reference, or AI-generated citation that uses the non-hyphenated domain for anything other than the homepage is a guaranteed dead end today. This is very likely the primary driver of the 3,573 broken pages Google reported in April, and it directly threatens the $16K per year of AI referral revenue measured in the last audit, because AI answer engines frequently link deep into a site rather than to its homepage.
The Fix Is Same-Day
Point the alias domain at Shopify as a secondary domain (Shopify then redirects every page correctly and automatically), or switch the registrar forward to "forward with path." One configuration change repairs every dead link at once. No content work required.
How We'll Know It Worked
Immediately: deep links on the alias domain land on the matching live page instead of an error. Within 2 to 4 weeks: the broken-page count in Google Search Console begins falling on its own, with no manual cleanup.

Where the Index Bloat Comes From
April's audit flagged 7,858 pages Google crawled but chose not to index. That number now has named causes. When Google spends its crawl budget on low-value URLs, it revisits the pages that earn revenue less often, and trusts the site's signals less overall.
Primary Cause
Site Search Is Indexable
Any phrase typed into the store's search box creates a URL that tells Google "index me." Even a nonsense query with zero results returns a normal, indexable page. Every unique query becomes another thin URL in Google's crawl queue. Fix: two lines of configuration telling crawlers to skip search results.
Secondary Cause
Stale & Auto-Generated Collections
Among the 360 live collections are leftover campaign pages (Black Friday newsletter collections, old summer sales) and auto-generated price buckets like "$200 to $300." These overlap heavily with real categories and add thin duplicates. Fix: retire or de-index expired collections.
Trust Erosion
Sitemap "Last Modified" Is Fabricated
The product sitemap stamps all 1,588 products as modified at the moment Google fetches the file, every time. Google has said it ignores this signal from feeds it catches being unreliable, which slows re-indexing of pages that genuinely changed. Test and junk entries ("copy-of," "sample") also remain live in the catalog.
"The sitemap itself is lean: 2,110 URLs, cleanly organized. Most of the bloat Google reports comes from URLs discovered outside it. Close the search-page loophole and retire the stale collections, and the biggest faucets shut off."

Structured Data: One Template, Whole Catalog
Structured data is the machine-readable product information (price, availability, ratings) that powers rich results in Google and grounds AI shopping answers. The store emits it on every page, which is good news: each bug below lives in a single theme template, so one fix repairs all ~1,588 products at once.

Every Product Advertises a Broken URL
A template bug doubles the web address inside each product's structured data, producing links of the form below, which lead nowhere. Confirmed on every product sampled, by two independent checks. This risks failing Google's product rich-result validation across the catalog.

Prices Formatted So Machines Misread Them
Prices are emitted as "1,499.00" with a comma. Google's specification requires plain numbers ("1499.00"). The stores' highest-ticket items, gongs from $500 to $3,000+, are exactly the ones at risk of having their price data silently rejected.

"Translation Missing" Shipped to Google
The breadcrumb data on every page of the site labels the homepage as "Translation missing: en.general.breadcrumb.home" instead of "Home." A one-line locale file fix.

Star Ratings Exist But Never Reach Google
The store runs the Stamped reviews app, yet no rating data appears in the product structured data. Marketplace competitors (Amazon, eBay, Guitar Center) show stars in search results next to listings that don't. Likely a configuration toggle, not a rebuild.

There is no Organization or WebSite structured data anywhere: no machine-readable statement of who Gongs Unlimited is, linked to its social profiles. This weakens brand recognition in Google's knowledge systems and in AI assistants. The ingredients (logo file, social links) already exist on the site.

The Schumann Resonance Page, Solved
April's audit flagged the site's most valuable article, "Exploring the Schumann Resonance" (~7,870 visits per year), sliding from position 2.5 to 6.1 on Google. This audit read the search results page backwards to find out why, and the answer changes the fix.

Google re-weighted this query toward scientific authority and live utility. Measured against that bar, the current article fields five specific weaknesses:
- The answer is buried. The definition doesn't appear until the third paragraph, beneath a comedic intro. AI Overviews and featured snippets quote lead passages, so today they'd quote the joke, not the answer.
- The author is anonymous. The byline reads "M H" with no name, bio, or credentials, on an article making claims about immune function and brain-wave effects.
- Real citations, wasted. The article cites NASA and two peer-reviewed studies, a genuine strength, but dumps them unlinked at the end instead of attaching them to the claims they support.
- Frozen since May 2023. Published and last-modified dates are identical, three years old, while competitors update continuously.
- Shopping widgets mid-article. Add-to-cart modules interrupt the informational read, signaling "store page" on a query Google now treats as scientific.
The Refresh Spec
Open with a tight 40 to 60 word direct answer under the headline (the 7.83 Hz definition, who predicted it, why it's called "Earth's heartbeat"), keeping the brand's humor below it. Add a full-name author with a one-line credential. Link the existing NASA and journal citations inline at the claims they support. Move product modules below the educational content, where April's monetization recommendation (this page earns $255 on ~7,870 annual visits) still fully applies. Make real content updates and let the modified date reflect them. April's estimate for recovering this cluster: $30K to $80K per year.
Strength
The Commercial Core Ranks #1
"Buy gong" → #1. "Gong stand" → #1. Both search results pages are fully commercial, exactly matching what the store offers. The buying-intent foundation is healthy and defensible.
Strategy Note
"Singing Bowls" Belongs to the Sister Site
The singing bowl line was deliberately moved to unlimited-singingbowls.com years ago, and that site ranks #1 for the term. Demand for "singing bowls" showing up in this store's search data is therefore structurally unreachable here. A business decision, not an SEO task.

Speed & Mobile Experience
Performance scored lowest of all categories (28/100), and the diagnosis is specific: the server is fast, the theme is old. Response times measured ~100ms, excellent. Everything after that is weighed down by a legacy, jQuery-era theme that predates Shopify's modern architecture.

The Main Product Photo Waits for JavaScript
Product pages ship a placeholder spinner where the hero photo should be; the real image only loads after an old zoom plugin runs. Browsers can't discover the image early, so the most important visual on the money page is the last thing to arrive. This is the likeliest cause of the mobile speed issues Google flagged in April.

Verified with real device-size screenshots: on a standard phone screen, the Add to Cart button is cut off at the bottom edge, and on real devices with browser bars it falls fully out of view. Shoppers must scroll before they can buy.

Legacy Code Blocks Every Page
Ten stylesheets and three synchronous scripts (including a defunct parallax library with an Internet Explorer patch) block rendering on every page. A fonts request is malformed and duplicated four times. There's also a broken integration throwing a JavaScript error on every single page load.

Nearly all images lack reserved dimensions, causing content to jump as photos pop in. Pinch-to-zoom is disabled site-wide, which disproportionately affects older shoppers, a meaningful share of this store's buyers. Both are standard, low-risk theme fixes.

Sampled product descriptions are unique and specification-rich: frequencies, dimensions, weights, real expertise. Not manufacturer boilerplate. This is a durable advantage over marketplace listings; the fixes in this report let Google see it properly.

The store publishes a well-formed llms.txt and agents.md (instruction files for AI agents), machine-readable product data feeds, and modern agent-commerce discovery endpoints. Every major AI crawler is permitted. Most Shopify stores have none of this. Technical access is not the bottleneck.

Content Shape & the Broken Alias
What limits AI citations today: answers buried under comedic intros, anonymous authors on health-adjacent claims, and a brand entity Google's systems can't formally identify (no Organization data, no Wikipedia presence). And the broken alias domain (Section 02) dead-ends AI deep links, the most direct threat to existing AI revenue.

Crawler Policy Is Default-Open
All AI bots are currently allowed by default, including pure training-data crawlers that never send traffic back. Worth an intentional policy: welcome the bots that cite and refer (search assistants), decide consciously about the ones that only ingest.

Each educational article should open with a direct, self-contained answer an AI can lift verbatim, carry a named expert author, and link its sources inline. The Schumann refresh (Section 05) is the template; the blog archive follows.

Prioritized Action Plan
Sequenced by leverage. The first four items are small engineering changes with outsized, measurable effects, and every item names the signal that proves it worked.
- Fix the alias domain forwarding. Add gongsunlimited.com to Shopify as a secondary domain (or enable path-preserving forwarding at the registrar). Proof: deep links redirect instead of erroring. Signal: GSC broken-page count falls within 2 to 4 weeks.
- Confirm the Google Search Console property setup. Verify which domain the data is measured against, so every historical number is read correctly.
- Close the site-search loophole. Tell crawlers to skip internal search results (robots.txt plus a noindex tag on the search template). Signal: "crawled, not indexed" trend reverses.
- Ship the structured-data bundle as one dev ticket. Fix the doubled product URL, remove price commas, repair the "Translation missing" breadcrumb label, clean stale social-image tags. Proof: Google's Rich Results Test passes on sampled products.
- Refresh the Schumann Resonance article per the Section 05 spec, including tasteful product modules below the content. ($30K to $80K/yr cluster per April's estimate.)
- Product page speed pass: load the hero photo directly with high priority, add image dimensions site-wide, move mobile Add to Cart above the fold, re-enable pinch-zoom.
- Turn on review stars: connect Stamped ratings into product structured data. Add the Organization and WebSite brand entity data.
- Remove the broken script erroring on every page load, and the defunct parallax library.
- Collection copy program, starting with the near-empty All Gongs hub, then the top ten collections by revenue, using the Paiste page as the quality bar. Fix the "Filter By" headings.
- Collection hygiene: retire expired campaign collections, de-index auto-generated price buckets, remove test and duplicate products, investigate the sitemap timestamp issue.
- Author program: named bios and credentials on the blog, inline citations as standard practice, applied across the top educational posts.
- Breadcrumb architecture: route products through their real categories rather than the generic "All" collection.
Context for Expectations
April's audit estimated $300K to $700K in incremental 12-month organic revenue from the full program. This follow-up strengthens that case: the biggest blockers found are concentrated, one-time fixes rather than long content grinds, and the commercial core (#1 rankings, unique product copy, working AI plumbing) is already in place to receive the recovered visibility.
